Week 3 Devlog: Basic Audio (1.2)

For this weeks devlog, I added a few new sounds so that the level at least has some basic audio. In total, I added a background track called "The Pyre":

I added two "ambient" sounds for the lava and for the rotating platforms in the second room:

Lava Loop 1: Sound Effect from Pixabay (specifically used this one as it sounded like it was in a more enclosed space)

I recorded audio for:

  • Picking up the key (used my own set of keys)
  • Trying to open the door when you don't have enough keys (recorded myself moving the handle of my room door, as if struggling with a locked door handle)
  • Opening the door (tried my absolute best to record my own door for this sound, but it's almost as if doors know exactly when you do and don't want them to creak, so I couldn't for the life of me get any sort of sound without having awful background noise, and I ended up using the following sound online: door open + creak - outside to inside.wav by Anthousai -- https://freesound.org/s/398749/ -- License: Creative Commons 0

And last but not least, I used BFXR to create a few other sounds for:

  • Getting a checkpoint
  • Dying / Hitting Lava
  • The moving platform (a rising tone for one way, descending tone for the other for added variety)
  • The falling platform (one sound for activating it, and one for when it drops)

I added a small little hallway at the very end of the level just to incorporate the falling platforms and make sure the sounds were right, and this hallway will most likely be changed / polished up within the coming weeks.
